ESTABLISHED SINCE 1987

Empowering women and their families to make better and informed life choices

NKS is an established platform for women and their families to collectively address issues of concern to them living in Scottish society.

INDEPENDENT HEALTH ADVOCACY

This is to support women on a one to one basis to access health services in Edinburgh. The project has been providing the service since the inception of NKS.

FAMILY SUPPORT WORK Service

This post was created in 1994 with help from the local Councillor. Creating a separate post to deal with the social welfare problems of South Asian families helped in several ways.

OUTREACH/BEFRIENDING SERVICE

This is crucial to NKS work overall. It provides a great deal of support to women who are very isolated and lack confidence for various reasons.

Regular GROUP WORK AT NKS

Currently, there are 8 groups running under NKS’ umbrella and all of the groups are mainly engaged in discussion sessions or activities on a voluntary basis.

NKS Nursery

NKS provides childcare to pre-school children in the NKS Nursery which is open five days a week from Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.

NKS After School/Homework Club

The ASHC aims to provide learning support to children. Activities include: help with homework and projects; maths tuition and English tuition.

ENGLISH CONVERSATION Classes

Taking place a few times a week. The classes are online and are with qualified volunteer tutors. Currently, we have the following classes: Beginners; Intermediate and Men’s Group. The classes are informal and a great way to build up your confidence and help to improve your everyday spoken and written English.

Education and Training

Currently we have informal computer classes running here and offer childcare students work placement in our nursery.
