NKS Parenting Forum Meeting - 19th of November 2011
NKS - Nari Kallyan Shangho organised a discussion about
the parenting experience of mothers from diverse cultural
background in Edinburgh on the 19th of November 2011.
The discussion involved a lot of self reflection by the women in relation to the parenting of teenagers.
A thought provoking questionnaire
that was completed by the women who attended stimulated self reflection of their experiences of parenting.
Parenting relating to various aspects of children's lives, such as studies, friends, responsibilities, respect and ambition in life were discussed.
Mothers from various ethnic backgrounds, including: Chinese, Bangladeshi, English, Indian, Pakistani and Scottish
backgrounds attended the discussion and made it lively by discussing their interaction with their children.
The Parenting Forum was the first of its kind at NKS and such forums will be held quarterly.
It is planned to involve school guidance teachers and the Edinburgh Families and Children department in its future meetings.
The next meeting will be held in February 2012. The dates for the next meetings are as follows:
