Parenting Forum

NKS – NKS organised a discussion about the parenting experiences of mothers from diverse cultural backgrounds in Edinburgh on the 19th of November 2011.

The discussion involved a lot of self reflection by the women in relation to the parenting of teenagers. A thought provoking questionnaire, which was completed by the women who attended, prompted them to share their experiences of parenting. Different aspects of their children’s lives were looked at such as their: studies; friends; responsibilities; respect and ambition in life.

Mothers from various ethnic backgrounds, including: Chinese; Bangladeshi; English; Scottish; Indian and Pakistani attended the discussion. The discussion was quite lively as they shared how they interacted with their own children.

The Parenting Forum was the first of its kind at NKS and such forums will be held quarterly. NKS plans to have regular input from school guidance teachers, the Children and Families Department of the City of Edinburgh Council and any other relevant organisations in future meetings.

The next Parenting Forum meeting will be held on Thursday the 10th of December 2015 from 10.30 am until 12 noon at NKS premises.
